When Enough Is Enough
Haven’t seen the Katherine Heigl film 27 Dresses yet? Don’t worry, you will. Film 4 have it playing every other day, taking up a valuable 2 hours of screen time that could be handed to a film that hasn’t been seen once, say, like the classic Netherlands thriller The Vanishing (Spoorloos is its original name). I have nothing against the film – quite the contrary, I’m a big Heigl fan, despite the fact she probably is a Botox addict – it’s just that enough is enough, you know? I realise that films are very expensive to acquire, and Film 4 must have shelled out a LOT for this one, but does that mean that we all have to endure watching it now for as long as we live? I suppose it does, but let’s hope not, because I’m immune to the good that can come out of watching a film a hundred times at the moment, and pretty soon I’m going to start thinking that I love rom-com’s much more than I do and is healthy…Considering I’m a man who has repeatedly told friends how much he hates all rom-coms, that would be tragic. In fact, I’d look a right fool if anyone connected this post here to the real-life me!
My problem, you see, is that I sort of rely on Film 4 for movies. And why shouldn’t I? It’s a FILM ONLY channel, and so since I already have access to this – as well as ones I download – I don’t feel I should have to go out and become a member of a DVD club. Nothing against them, and I know we should be keeping businesses alive, but there is really something to be said for just flicking a channel over and being able to watch a good film every night.
